How do I participate
in the Museums And Public Schools (MAPS) Program?
Participation in the MAPS Program is only offered to the public
schools in the city of Chicago. It is a two-year commitment by
the schools' principals and teachers, and involves attending
teacher and principal professional development sessions, incorporating
the MAPS curriculum into the general curriculum, taking field
trips to partner museums, and participating in other additional
support activities.
If your school is interested in becoming a MAPS school, please
contact your Region Educational Officer or CPS/MAPS Project Director
at 773-553-1975 for more information.

How do I schedule a
field trip and reserve a bus?
The current process for scheduling a field trip is as follows:
The MAPS teacher contacts the partner museum and requests a date
for a field trip. The suggested hours for a field trip are between
the times of 9:00 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. (Most bus companies have drop-off
and pick-up times at other schools and must plan the bus schedules
accordingly.) The MAPS teacher is responsible for ordering the bus. The last step in the process is for the teacher
to complete and submit the Application for Student Travel form
to the principal, Region Educational Officer, and the Chief Education Officer
for approval.

How is the bus payment handled?
The MAPS teacher is responsible for ordering a bus. Some bus
companies might request payment and/or deposit in advance. If
this should occur, the school or teacher may pay the fees. MAPS
will reimburse all fees paid. The original receipt should be submitted
within one month after the field trip. Submit the original receipt
to Laura Pastor, Office of Language, Cultural, and Early Childhood
Education, 125 S. Clark Street, 11th Floor, Chicago, Il. 60614.
