Since 1930, Chicago's John G. Shedd Aquarium has promoted understanding and appreciation of the aquatic world through its education and conservation mission. The largest indoor aquarium in the world, Shedd is home to more than 19,000 aquatic animals and nearly 1,500 species from around the world.

Wild Reef - Sharks at Shedd

Get ready for a face-to-face encounter with dozens of sharks at Shedd's newest exhibit, Wild Reef - Sharks at Shedd. Wild Reef has one of the most diverse displays of sharks in North America, shown with other large predators in a 400,000-gallon habitat. Floor-to-ceiling exhibit windows give guests a divers'-eye view of a Philippine coral reef, teeming with live corals and more than 500 species of reef fishes of all shapes, colors and sizes. The exhibit's 26 interconnected habitats - totaling more than 750,000 gallons of water - are housed in a new underground wing.

Amazon Rising: Seasons of the River
Journey through a year in the flood cycle of the Amazon River, the world's largest freshwater river system and lifeblood of one of the most diverse habitats on Earth. The dramatic re-creation of the Amazon floodplain forest is home to more than 250 species of aquatic, terrestrial and arboreal animals, including 200 species of fishes, reptiles, amphibians, birds, mammals and invertebrates.

Aquarium
From the remote fresh waters of the Amazon to the intricate beauty of the Caribbean, discover thousands of fascinating and beautiful aquatic animals. Watch divers plunge into the 90,000-gallon Caribbean Reef to feed a rehabilitated green sea turtle and Caribbean fishes, including sharks and a green moray eel, while answering questions through an underwater microphone.

Oceanarium
Watch dolphins leap during presentations, see a whale-feeding session from poolside, take a walk through the Pacific Northwest coastline to encounter sea otters and harbor seals and observe colonies of penguins in a naturalistic Falkland Islands habitat. Underwater viewing windows allow guests to get face-to-face with the animals in their environment.

Special Programs
Sleep with the fishes during overnighters, travel to far-off lands, or discover the underwater world of animals from seahorses to beluga whales - all at Shedd Aquarium. Join us in a variety of fun, educational programs for adults and children.
